§01What we do

Caldremere reviews online strategy games for players and families in the UK. We only write about games we have played for many evenings, alone and with friends where a game allows it, and every dossier says how long a sitting takes, where it is safe to stop, who can play with you, what it sells once you own it and how hard it pulls you back for one more turn.

§02Why a war table?

Strategy players already think in turns, moves and supply lines. It felt natural to plan the evening the same way: a turn order for tonight’s games, a rest token between two turns, action points for the time you have and a ceasefire flag at screens off.

§03Where the name comes from

A mere is an old English word for a still lake. Caldremere is meant to be that kind of place in a busy evening: a calm stretch of water where you look at the map before you march, and where stopping is part of the plan.

§04Who writes the reviews

A small team of long-time strategy players, from grid tactics and roguelike skirmishes to empire builders and Viking settlements, together with parents who set up the family controls on every platform we mention.

§05How the site is paid for

Not by anyone in the games business. There are no adverts, affiliate links, sponsored reviews or products for sale. We host no games, run no accounts and take no payments.

§06Conflicts of interest

If a reviewer has a personal or professional link to a game or studio, someone else writes the dossier and it says so. We accept no gifts, trips, early copies or in-game items in exchange for coverage.

§07The artwork

Every picture of a game’s world is an original illustration made for Caldremere in the spirit of that game’s own look: chunky pixel armies for one, a pastel low-poly island for another, a papercraft valley for a third. None of it is official artwork, a screenshot or a real person. Our lake-and-tower emblem is our own.

§08Why UK English?

British spelling, UK age labels and UK support services. No pop-ups, no autoplaying video or sound and no tracking of any kind.

§09Corrections
